Not your traditional English pub.
Nor is it just another restaurant either
Hof’s Bar & Restaurant serve Brakspear cask ales and a full range of draught products.
They also have a good selection of bottled beers as well as a selected list of expertly-served cocktails.
But it is wine which is their speciality. Serving over fifty different wines by the glass or if preferred, by the bottle. They also offer bespoke wine tastings where an in-house wine expert is on hand at the venue’s Wine Hub.
Then there is the Yorkshire pudding and their Sunday roasts if you still have any doubts.
Not the standard offering of sliced cuts of overcooked meat accompanied by steamed veg and lathered in gravy.
A meal described by one guest as a masterpiece of culinary preparation which melts in the mouth, exuding all the subtle herb and spice flavours infused in the tenderest meat during the long slow cooking process. A generous portion with some to take home. Which says it all.

What caught my eye on the menu at the Huntsman in Brockenhurst was the Pork and Chorizo Scotch Egg and the Ploughmans Platter.
The food is good and in particular their wood fired pizzas which are special.
They also do a damned good steak in their charcoal oven. I haven’t had much luck with steak in the UK but these are good.

The French have their cafés, Americans their fast food diners and the British their pubs.
In his 17th-century diary, Samuel Pepys described the pub as “the heart of England”. A meeting place, somewhere to relax, where people can eat, drink, talk and play games like cards or darts or billiards.
A village local like the Woodmancote Pub where one is confronted unapologetically by an array home baked cakes amongst bottles of wine and pork scratchings.
As well as a menu offering traditional pub food such as a Farmers Country Platter sitting comfortably alongside the ubiquitous burger. An unfortunate feature found on most menus in the day and age.
